About

Welcome to my recipe blog!

I love to try new recipes and have recently begun creating my own. Much of my time in the kitchen is spent re-vamping our favorite family recipes so that they are healthier.

Around the web, you'll find a wide array of views on what is considered healthy eating, anything from eating only organics to eating low-calorie and low-fat.

When I say healthier, I mean cooking with as many whole grains and real unprocessed foods as possible and greatly limiting processed ones.

I would love to say I only use organics, but I don't. As a matter of fact, I usually only buy them when the budget allows, or I find a good deal on them.

My goal at the grocery store is to fill my cart with mostly items from the perimeter of the store. By doing this I am primarily purchasing fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy.

Of course, there are exceptions, such as whole wheat flour, brown rice, spices, etc. However, shopping with this in mind reduces the amount of processed foods that end up in my cart.

You'll also notice here that I try not to use refined sugars, but rather natural sweeteners, like honey and maple syrup. For recipes that need a non-liquid sweetener, I usually use raw sugar (Turbinado, specifically).

Sucanat would be an even better choice than Turbinado, as it is even less refined than Turbinado. However, we really don't care for sucanat, and it costs more per pound.

If this sounds like the kind of meals you are looking to prepare, go ahead and check out the recipes here on Amanda's Tasty Kitchen, and let me know what you think.

Thanks so much for your visit!
